“Behold, I Come Quickly”

Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I come quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his work shall be.”

Behold I come quickly - best*

In John 9, while passing the man who was born blind; Jesus answered His disciples “…I (we) must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.”

Great hymns of the faith also encourage and admonish us with stirring words…”Am I a soldier of the cross?  A follower of the Lamb? And shall I fear to own his cause or blush to speak his name?  Must I be carried to the skies on flowery beds of ease, while others fought to win the prize and sailed thru bloody seas?”  The Scriptures admonish us to not be weary in doing well ” for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not”. (Gal.6:9 ) Many of you teach children week after week. Maybe you feel stuck with no one to relieve you?  I would like to encourage you to keep up this vital ministry. Don’t forget, He promises renewed strength to those who wait on Him.  He is coming very soon and promises a  rich reward for loving, diligent service. “Blessed are those servants whom the master finds alert and watching when He comes.  Truly I say to you, he will gird himself and have them recline at table and will come and serve them!” Luke 12:37 (amplified)

Tower of Babel – Alternate Project

In Genesis 11, we read that the inhabitants of the world spoke one language.   Wicked Nimrod wanted to gather the people together in a one-world kingdom/religion and started building a ziggurat to incorporate his unifying ideas.  To confound their evil imaginations, the LORD scattered the people through the use of many languages.   The people had to stop building their tower and group together according to who they understood.  For the handwork portion of your class, the kids can construct a tower (see the post on August 10, 2011)… but for an alternate project you will have to do some  further research on the internet.  Do a search on “John 3:16  in other languages”, look inside a Gideon Bible or translate this blog using “google translate” or “free-website-translation.com”.  *John 3:16*  is the most translated verse in the world…the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the only thing that can truly unite us. Have the kids organize and design a  “John 3:16 tract”  using a different language.  It should be one that they are not familiar with.  If you want to be able to use these to pass out to people, try using a language that is spoken by people in your area.

The Sign of the Covenant

Everyone loves rainbows… but the fact that it is a sign of a covenant with God may elude many admirers!  After Noah was commanded to enter the ark, he was told that he would have to wait seven more days inside the vessel before  the rain started. I’m sure he had no worries though, he had been faithfully obeying the LORD’S commands and preparing for many years.  But can you imagine  today being given a warning by God, that you have seven days before certain destruction falls?  Would your life change any?  Are there people you would encourage or share the words of life with?  Any habits you would finally get the victory over or ruined relationships you would seek to mend?  This scenario is not that far-fetched as we recall what Jesus said in Luke 17:26-27 & 30, “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man.  People will be eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark.  Then the flood came and destroyed them all…It will be just like this on the day the Son of man is revealed.”  The LORD’S saints are to be watching and prepared like Noah!

Scripture reference from Genesis 9:13, “I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.”

Important note:  Given the mature themes of the story of Cain and Abel, I  do not teach this lesson in its entirety to younger kids but you may send a note home with parents to encourage them to discuss the story from Genesis 4 with their kids as it includes helpful information to further illustrate the plan of redemption.  You will recall that God provided a covering of skins for Adam and Eve after they sinned.  This taught them that they needed a suitable covering – not the fig leaves they had sewn together.  God would have to provide a covering by shedding innocent blood.

The LORD God provides a covering

No doubt  they would have taught the acceptable worship of the LORD to Cain and Abel, and we read in Hebrews 11 that Abel offered a more excellent sacrifice “by faith”  and faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17).  Cain did not submit to the God-given instructions of his parents but willfully offered the fruit of his own self-righteous efforts.  Only Abel “obtained witness” from the LORD that his sacrifice was accepted and he was to enjoy right-standing with God as a result. Cain was filled with burning anger because he was aware that the LORD did not acknowledge  his sacrifice.  It was at this point that the LORD sought Cain to reason with him about his destructive attitude and offer him another chance “to do well” and be accepted. God, as a loving Father, also warned him  that sin was waiting to overtake him if he hardened his heart. We all know the result of Cain’s unwillingness to repent.  Jude prophesies that false teachers “have gone in the way Cain”… and certainly there are many religions that boast a plethora of man-made rules and rituals in which they seek to be made acceptable to the god that they worship.  Praise God, He has provided a covering for  all… and “whosoever believes” that the blood of the spotless Lamb of God is the only means by which our sins can be covered and washed away…is made acceptable to God.  “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.  Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” Romans 5:8-9

That Great Dragon

The great dragon * 2

Scripture reference from Revelation 12:7-9 –  ” And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer.  So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world…”

If you have taught a lesson on the original sin from Genesis 3, no doubt you had conversations with your kids regarding the serpent…the creature that Satan chose to indwell.  This is what I teach kids (upper elementary age and older) about their foe: He is a created being…originally very beautiful. (Ezekiel 28:15)  He is able to transform himself in order to deceive.  (a serpent in Gen.3:1 and as an angel of light  in 2 Corinthians 11:14)  He lies to everyone….mostly about the nature of sin – that it is o.k. and it will not hurt you; and  about the character of God -that He is not good or trustworthy. (John 8:44, Revelation 12:9)  His fate is sealed…”The devil who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are.  And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.” (Revelation 20:10)   He is under God’s authority (Job 2:1)  All of these facts are to prepare us for spiritual warfare because our enemy is prowling around looking for someone to destroy. (1 Peter 5:8)   We engage the enemy by putting on the whole armor of God. (Ephesians 6:10-18) For further study you can read Isaiah 14 which describes Lucifer’s fall from his exalted position as an anointed cherub.

Note: ideas for drawing the dragon image were borrowed from dragon clip art royalty-free image #6 (graphicsfactory.com)  I embellished the scales by tracing on the foil seal from a nut can. Cut out pieces and imprint design with a pencil  on a soft  surface like a magazine before gluing in place.
